I was 14 and it was during the Unforgettable Fire tour (1986 I think). I was with a bunch of my friends behind the Worcester Centrum in Worcester, Mass. You could hear the band inside doing a sound check, which was fabulous for those of us who were really into U2.

All of a sudden, Bono came outside to talk to us!! My friend Lena took off her fake diamond earring (just like Molly Ringwald in the Breakfast Club) and gave it to him, and he put it in his pocket. My friend Cara said to him, “so, you’re in a band? What instrument do you play?” It was so embarrassing!! I just stood in the back and watched everyone while my heart pounded in my chest!!
