A story about Jack Black
This is the story of “The Man that Wanted to be Left Alone.”
It was at the San Diego Comic Convention. It gets crowded at Con. Con is not exactly a comic book nerd convention. Celebrities, stars, and such use the Con as an excuse to promote their movies, books, whatnot. It’s just San Diego’s excuse to become Hollywood for a day.
No more than a few moments after I was done hanging out with Rob Van Dam. There was a big crowd. In a sudden rush, there was a stampede worth of people in my way.
I asked someone what was going on. There’s always a crowd at Con. But the pack of a hundred people running in the same direction was strange. Was it a fight? Was it a contest? Why are all these people running in the same place? Was it a fire?
“Someone famous is over there!” said the person.
“Um… thanks.”, I muttered. Duh. This is Con. There are famous people all over the building.
I pushed and shoved past the mob for five minutes to see what the deal was. And when I got past the people, a group of nerds crowded around one man.
I stood behind the smelly nerds to find one man. Not only was he familiar. He was irritated and visibly angry.
It was Jack Black of Tenacious D and “School of Rock” fame.
He was walking in some general direction, and this mob of people in the hundreds were following him with cameras and autographs. Some of them very invasive of his personal space. One of them asked for his autograph, and I could see Jack ready to rip his head off.
I said something to Jack, and I can’t remember what it was. But he was so fed up with the people, he tuned it out.
I figure it was better to leave him alone. Interesting enough that I was arms-length distance away from the guy. But I’ve never seen someone so mad in my life.
Poor Jack.
