Why I want to meet Barak

Barak mentioned he wanted to learn how to play chess in one of his 43things entries, so I figure I could be the one to teach him. I love chess although I’m not that great at it. Chess is a big game in my family with some of my relatives playing competitively and myself being on the chess club in high school. So, I know the game really well and am always up for some friendly competition (I also have a really pimpin chess set).

how do you plan on teaching me ? through some kind of Internet chess program?

I figured we’d sit on my porch, have a glass of raspberry iced tea or some coffee and play on my marble chess set. I’ve never played chess online, so I wouldn’t even know where to begin with that myself. I’m willing to give online play a shot though :D

I’ll keep that in mind if I’ll ever am near Springfield, Missouri (which unfortunately probably won’t happen in the near future).. as for now our only option is practicing on online chess games.

I looked up some stuff regarding this goal:

I found good explanations for the game’s rules in Hebrew at Wikipedia. Before we’ll start practicing I’ll need to try internalize most of that stuff, or at least have it printed in front of me.
I also found on Wikipedia a good list of Internet servers to play chess at

do you use ICQ or any other instant messaging software by any chance?
