A story about Leonard Cohen
A great poet!
To love you
is to live
my ideal diary
Which I have
promised my body
I will never write!

At the 2008 PenguiCon scifi convention, he was one of the guests of honor. On Saturday morning, I happened to be sitting right next to him at a publisher’s breakfast thrown by Subterranean Press. I didn’t talk much, though I did manage to tell him that I was a huge fan of his (and that his True Names and Other Dangers was a formative work for me, even before Gibson’s Neuromancer). I also spilled my coffee like a klutz, and narrowly avoided dousing him with it.
I got to meet him though!
She did a presentation at a school in a city close to ours. I was one out of many students lucky enough to listen to her. She is amazing!

BT is one of the first artists I began listening to when I got into the trance genre and his music is just amazing. It’s always interesting to see how his mind can flip to do multiple things in various styles. I’m a big fan of his music, and a bigger fan of his intellect. He’s a great guy all around and he’d really be fun to meet some day.
There aren’t too many famous people I consider worth meeting, but this man has such an immensely amazing mind that I couldn’t fathom him being a boring person.
“Arriving for this interview, I find a gentleman with an effervescent one-toothed smile sitting on his porch reading the future challenges and compatibility of a Japanese couple. An interpreter gesticulates and alternates between Balinese, Indonesian and Japanese in aid of their communication. Occasionally, Liyer makes a shortcut into Japanese – the few phrases he knows are delivered impeccably.
Ketut Liyer considers healing, first and foremost, his lifelong calling. Death came knocking at his door when he tried to deny the ancestral gift passed down to him. He was due for a life-saving amputation for burns to his arms when his late grandfather instructed him in a dream to concoct a traditional remedy based on saffron and sandalwood. It did the trick.
Individually, Liyer does a comprehensive reading of fortunes, fates and work prospects. He does not merely read the palm of the hand, but also the tread of the feet, lie of legs, fall of collarbone and lines of the face. An intuitive sense and knowledge of aksara holy letters that manifest in different body parts aids his reading.
Our host believes simplicity is a great virtue, especially later in life. He may not read the future in any detail, but he reassures his visitors of the qualities they already possess that can help them live a long, peaceful life. Instead of reading too much into it, he chooses to bless their future and calm their anxieties. In this way, he acts as a healer of fates.”

P.S. Thank you, Elizabeth Gilbert, for introducing me to his existence.
Ernest Hemingway was wrong in almost everything he did, from a politically correct viewpoint. But he had a lust for life and a personal vitality that infected everyone around him. Vain, selfish, arrogant, he was also brave, loyal, and generous. He was macho, even for his time, and lived like he was permanently on vacation, doing what he wanted, when he wanted. He let no opportunity be wasted, living like he was in a race with life, which of course he was. I admire him because I too would like to live a life without apology or regret.

We might have! :D Or maybe we just gave the lion some more options, which is very good too.

We can give it a try! {picks up the plate and places it in front of the lion} Maybe we should step away and let him/her eat in peace (if the salad happens to be pleasing).
Sounds like a plan! ;)
Oooh! Look! S/he’s eating it! Wohoo!
