Kurt Vonnegut (placeholder)

“Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.”

I met him once in NYC, I think it was some ACLU thing. He was sort of grumpy, I think he was shy.

Yesterday I came across this quote from him:
“We are here on Earth to fart around, and don’t let anyone tell you any different.”

It reminded me that he was wearing beat up old corduroy pants with a hole in the butt that day.

I met Kurt when he came to speak at my university (Wittenberg) in Ohio in 1993-4 (somewhere in there). He was amazing and even though I had not read his books I went up to him afterwards to ask questions. We spoke for quite a while and he was very inspiring. I asked him to adopt me 3/4 of the way through our conversation. He is a good man.

I got to have tea with him once. He was rather quiet, but he had a lot of charisma. He is missed.

I guess I have to let this one go, huh? RIP Vonnegut. My absolute favorite writer and a complete genius in my opinion.

All persons living and dead are purely coincidental. And to Kurt, the only athiest who truly believed in the Sermon on the Mount, up in Heaven, all I can say is – Well done. You tried.

One of the best American writers of all times. His talent, humor and compassion inspire me and make me want to be a writer too.

many years ago, Kurt Vonnegut spoke at a conference at the hotel I was working at. Needless to say i was a mess. Running around making sure everything was perfect and telling everyone I saw about him. Well, dinner time came around and I heard he was going to dine in our restaurant. So I raced to the hostess to make sure they had a great table set for him and to comp his meal. Kurt Vonnegut is coming! I exclaimed. She was clueless. So I went on and on telling her about him..most influential writer of our time, keen insight, brilliant etc etc. When a friend tapped me on the shoulder and said “turn around”. I froze, petrified, the man himself was right behind me! So I turned to face him. he gazed at me with an amused smile on his face. And at that moment, the best that could come out of the mouth of this aspiring writer was….”you write good” and I fled! Oh the agony!
