Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (born July 28, 1954) is the 53rd and current President of Venezuela. As the leader of the “Bolivarian Revolution”, Chávez is known for his radical socialist governance, his promotion of Latin American integration, and his criticism—which he terms anti-imperialism — of neoliberal globalization and United States foreign policy.
A career military officer, Chávez founded the leftist Fifth Republic Movement after a failed 1992 coup d’état. Chávez was elected President in 1998 on promises of aiding Venezuela’s poor majority, and reelected in 2000. Domestically, Chávez has launched massive Bolivarian Missions to combat disease, illiteracy, malnutrition, poverty, and other social ills. Abroad, Chávez has acted against the Washington Consensus by supporting alternative models of economic development, and has advocated cooperation among the world’s poor nations, especially those in Latin America.

El Presidente de Venezuela! Really wanted to meet this man when I have the chance because of his staunch support for Socialism, although really hate it to see him with Fidelito Casto, arrr….Anyway, I envy Venezuela for having such a good, compassionate, and responsible President. I hope one day my country the Philippines would have someone like him as our President. Viva la Presidente!!!
I had a chance in London in 2006, my friend who I was with met him, but I didn’t think to go and shake his hand at the time, or get my photo with him, damn it! He takes all the time he has (and more) but he’s a great speaker!

Actually I don’t want to meet this man. I just want to learn more about the situation of my boyfriend’s country and see what people say about him and his conroversial ways. Its basically the only way I can bookmark this page.
I put him into a playscript I wrote last year. He didn’t have a very happy ending so I hope that part doesn’t come true.
I have taken a bit of interst in what Chavez has had to say lately and he seems to make a lot of sense. And he’s not afraid to say exactly what he thinks. I can see why that would make him unpopular in some circles, but I think we need more leaders like him in this world.
