A story about Wil Wheaton
I had a chance to meet Wil last weekend at Emerald City ComiCon, but was called away on family business at the last minute. Sigh!
Richard William (Wil) Wheaton III (born July 29, 1972 in Burbank, California) is a writer, father, actor, and geek icon. As an actor, he is best known for his portrayals of Wesley Crusher on the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) and Gordie LaChance in the film Stand By Me.

We attended his book signing (for Just a Geek) at the Alamo Drafthouse (Anderson Ln) a few years ago. My efforts to squash my inner squealyfangrrl were so successful, I would up saying nothing but “thank you.” At least my husband stepped up and congratulated him for breaking orbit of STNG.
I am such a dork, and not the cool kind, either.
I met Wil at a NewTek Xmas party. Jimmy Doohan and Al ‘Grandpa Munster’ Lewis were also there. Wil turned out to be a really cool guy. Smart, interested in tech, and liked Pink Floyd.
He just was this annoying kid. Then I heard his session at Gnomedex reading from his books, nah performing.
I love this recording. And discovered that he also has a great way of story telling. So now he is this cool, funny, smart guy with this compelling smile. And who does not want to meet a cool guy like Wil? :)
Why wouldn’t you want to meet Wil Wheaton? He’s the geek’s geek. Smart, funny, a talented writer, played a small role on Star Trek before becoming the celebrity version of the “everygeek.” Wil. Rocks.
And, this Sunday, in Boston, I will get the chance to do just that.
“Wil Wheaton, you’re my hero!”
I played a teacher on the set of “Toy Soldiers”. Wil kept to his peeps pretty much, and seemed to be basking in the success of “Stand by Me”.
Glad to see he is blogging now!
My mom got my twin and I four tickets to the Star Trek convention that was being held on our 16th birthday in the Buffalo, NY area. That is when I got to meet Wil Wheaton. I was so excited, till the guy controlling the people going in the room for signatures yelled to Wil, “Be nice to the girl in funny pants, it’s her birthday!”
Nice guy. Met him at his book signing for “Just a Geek” in Portland, Oregon a couple years ago.
