Why I admire Malik Rahim
This African American elder stayed in New Orleans throughout Katrina and its aftermath. He has been organizing local relief efforts and calling attention to the authorities’ failures to evacuate people properly or to care adequately for victims. Listen to this interview with him (but warning: it may inspire tears). If you’d rather read, here’s a short, heartfelt report he wrote in late August.
I admire Malik for his untiring dedication to his sisters and brothers and for helping all of us think about what we should learn from Katrina.
