Why I admire Frank Miller
i’m not a really big fan of graphic novels, but DAMN! YOU’RE GOOD!
Born 27 January 1957 at Olney, Maryland, USA. Is currently best known for Sin City (2005) with which he worked together with Robert Rodriguez. It was based on graphic novels which he wrote, drew, and inked.
His biography also includes grim film-noirish comic book stories using characters like Batman and Daredevil.
In 1986, his highly acclaimed comic-book work was the groundbreaking “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns,” a story about Batman in an alternate grim future.
Miller also co-created the Robocop character. He wrote the motion pictures Robocop 2 (1990) and RoboCop 3 (1993) and did the “Robocop” comic series for a little while.
For a year or two (?), Frank lived in Charlottesville Virginia with his wife, artist Lynn Varley. I met them at a local watering hole where I frequently ate lunch. One day, a newly printed copy of 300 Spartans circulated at the bar and we started talking. I was lucky to see them occasionally—friendly, fun people. They moved back to NYC to rekindle their energy.
