Why I like Derek Sivers
Derek rocks! CD Baby rocks! Host Baby rocks! Go Derek! =)
... was him getting really excited about this mail address feature he wrote (presumably for the CD Baby rewrite in Rails) where he correctly handles all the different address formats and postal codes for all the countries around the world.
I met Derek at the 2005 Ruby Conference. I think every time I saw him, he had this huge grin on his face.
Derek has made a splash in the Ruby world since he’s publicly converted CD Baby from PHP to Rails and Ruby. Being the connected person that he is, he’s usually early into new technologies. He’s responsible for giving me early invites into several social technology groups.
Add that to the fact that he was really cool and bought a bunch of us dinner at RubyConf—he’s a definite class act.
He bought a bunch of us dinner at Denny’s at RubyConf 2005. Can’t beat that for generous!
I met up with Derek at RubyConf 2005. I’ve ordered some music from CD Baby in the past and was surprised to find myself meeting the founder, president, and original programmer for the company! I got to chat with him briefly before the last session David Heinemeier Hannson gave on Rails. Real nice guy. Totally awesome that he’s rewriting the CD Baby site in Rails!
