Why I admire Yukihiro Matsumoto
He created Ruby, which is a great programming language.
Matz is the architect+implementor of Ruby. He realized the amount of visual noise in other programming languages could be reduced, thus Ruby is easy to read. Thanks for inventing this and making all of it open source.
Because he designed a wonderful programming language that makes my life easier and more fun. Thank you!
I met Matz at RubyConf 2005.
He was sitting next to me during the first talk and I was like “This guy looks familiar”. Then either Chad Fowler or David Black (i forget which) asked ‘where is matz’, and he raised his hand.
At least it solved the mystery of why he looked familiar.
I met him at FOSCON 2005 and Besides being a programming genius he’s also a great Japanese teacher!
ども ありがとうございます。
Matz almost bowled me over at the RubyConf registration table!
Actually, matz is a great guy and casts a long shadow in the world of technology. I briefly met him at RubyConf, but got to enjoy his presentations, jokes, and seeing his thought process in action as he sketched out the future of Ruby.
After I submitted Ruby Change Request #37 with the help of Dave Thomas—he was visiting at the time.
Very nice person, humble and polite.
Got a photo with him and his autograph on my Programming Ruby Book
