While I hardly ever agreed with his politics I always admired the man. I could never agree with his decision to pardon Richard Nixon. I do believe that he was an honest politician and a good man and that is a very rare thing and worthy of respect.
Ok, Honestly I didn’t personally meet Ford but my sister did. Ford and the Prez of France were in Biloxi, I was working crowd control. My sister was in the front of the crowd, when Ford came by the crowd surged forward and my sister fell on him.
No Secret Service got involved…but the next day when I was telling the story at school, I mentioned that my mother had asked her if she had gotten his wallet. My teacher was not amused, he said, “Well I hope she was Joking.” Gawd…some people.
What a great guy. He represented all the values I hold dear: honesty, compromise, honor. And I’m a Democrat! Safe journey, Jerry.
