Boyd Tinsley (placeholder)

He did a CD signing in the shopping center I was working in a few years ago. I was so excited because the Dave Matthews Band is my favorite ever, and of them, Boyd is my favorite member! He was super nice even though I only was able to spend a few minutes talking to him. I must say, he’s much bigger up close than he looks on stage! I felt like a little kid standing next to him!

Boyd was playing a small acoustic set in 1993 in Charlottesville in a small, quickly defunct cafe—if memory serves, he was playing with either Greg Howard or Tim Reynolds. He came in the second half of the set, and I met him in between sets when he walked into the men’s room as I was leaving.

It’s not a good story. I was in school with him in 7th grade, ironically the year his VH1 bio says he discovered his talent for violin playing. Well that’s not all he did that year. One of my neighbors at the time was telling people what a slut I was, and Boyd and four other boys got me in the ballfield at Buford Junior high school during a class assigned science project and proceeded to call me everything in the book. Whore, Slut, Sucker, you name it. He participated along with the rest of them. (BTW, our teacher was nowhere in sight when this happened, and I had no choice but to stay there or to run away from school that day. I wasn’t a slut, the boy who made up those rumors to this day has a reputation as a troubled man.) I don’t have a good take on this man because of what happened that day. And I never got one word of apology for this later when we were older. He’s just too arrogant for me!
