A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for the past three decades, Steve Wozniak, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Wheels of Zeus (wOz), helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple’s first line of products the Apple I and II and influenced the popular Macintosh. For his achievements at Apple Computer, Steve was awarded the National Medal of Technology by the President of the United States in 1985, the highest honor bestowed America’s leading innovators.
In 2000 Steve was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame and was awarded the prestigious Heinz Award for Technology, The Economy and Employment for “single-handedly designing the first personal computer and for then redirecting his lifelong passion for mathematics and electronics toward lighting the fires of excitement for education in grade school students and their teachers.”
Making significant investments of both his time and resources in education, Wozniak “adopted” the Los Gatos School District, providing students and teachers with hands-on teaching and donations of state-of-the-art technology equipment. Wozniak founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and was the founding sponsor of the Tech Museum, Silicon Valley Ballet and Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose.
Steve is currently a member of the board of directors for Jacent, a developer of cost-effective telephony solutions, and Danger, Inc., developer of a end-to-end wireless Internet platform.
Believes in encouraging free thinking and creativity for youngsters, counsel them against forces of conformity and drugs which leave them “not the master” of their fate.

Why I want to meet Steve Wozniak
My first “PC”, which wasn’t really a “PC” at all, was an Apple IIc. It was given to me for Christmas, just after I tuned 12 years old. I was obsessed with that machine for so long. It was relatively portable, but it was still extremely heavy. I used to take it to friends’ houses in my backpack, along with the heavy power brick that was necessary to haul around with it. I also brought along my handy adapter that allowed me to use any television equipped with the right RCA outputs as a monitor, and I played Lode Runner, Wizardry, and Ultima IV. I also developed my own programs in BASIC, including many hoax programs, inspired by stories like Wargames, Cloak & Dagger, Real Genius, Revenge of the Nerds, and many others. I wanted to be a hacker, but my mom wouldn’t let me get a modem for that very reason. Steve “The WOZ” Wozniak was one of the two Steves, the other being Steve Jobs, who helped create that machine that I once adored so much, and he helped pave the way for me to pursue my interests in computers and all things digital. I would really consider a positive meeting with the WOZ to be a good life moment for myself. That is why I’d like to meet him.

I met him at MacHack 2001 and he autographed my iBook. We talked about gadgets & he liked my camera (a Canon S100) because it was so small.

i saw him at a mexican restaurant in San Jose once. He seemed like a really great guy, and I knew who he was at the time, but I’m not one to interrupt someone while they’re eating, so I let him be.
