Mark Kistler (placeholder)

A Mostachioed man with dark hair and a pencil, or several. This is the TV personality I knew in my youth as Commander Mark on the PBS show “The Secret City.” On this show he would demonstrate a method of “Drawing in 3D” and with the help of other performers and guests he would teach an appreciation and understanding of art. His show included many segments on specific art techniques, such as computer art, stop motion and drawn animation and sculpting with plastic. Today he has a new show, “Imagination Station” where he continues his art education for children. You can also find his books on sale in art stores throughout the world.

A story about Mark Kistler

Little did I know when I added him to my list just how close he was. Apparently he lives in my own town. He’s giving drawing instruction workshops this month. I have only to get the courage up to actually go and see him. Now, if I can only think of what I want to say to him when I do meet him.

Why I want to meet Mark Kistler

Mark Kistler made me want to draw after 15 grown up years. Now I pay his 3D forward and live by his credo.

Shade! Shade! Shade!

Why I admire Mark Kistler

He taught me how to shade! And if you can shade, you’re instantly a great artist.

He once stayed at the hotel my boyfriend works at and nobody freakin’ told me!

A story about Mark Kistler

Basically, Mark Kistler taught me to draw, and I have made a carrear out of art. His instruction in pencil drawing and perspective was the foundation of a skill I have enjoyed using all my life. His interviews with guests and people who are ordinarily behind the scenes in childrens shows opened up the possibilities of computer art and animation to me at an early age.

I am now a professional animator who has had the privilege of working on award-winning children’s educational videos.

I would like to meet him to thank him, to offer to be a guest on his show and expose the young viewers to my own carrear as a possibility, or even to work with him on a more long-term basis.
