In 1994 I met Perry in a club in Beverly Hills. We both happen to be there to see a band, Extra Fancy. He was there with who (was|would become) his wife. I remember him asking me where I was from, to which I replied North Carolina. He responded with “that’s a scary place.”
in the early 90’s i saw Perry at club 1970’s in Hollywood and happened to be wearing a janes addiction t shirt. Amazed at the coincidence I went up to him and was like: “hey!” (pointing to my shirt). His face got all weird and he started moving his arms like he was bowling in slow motion – imagine the horror when I realized his hand was headed right towards my crotch! Then later he pulled me into a conga train while barry manilow’s coca cabana played…
I loved his earlier music. He writes very deep poetic lyrics. I wish I would have met him in his musical prime… when he seemed to be in touch with something deep inside himself. Whether it came from struggle or what not, it appears to not be as present as it once was.
