A story about Christiane Amanpour
In the early 1980s I was the news director of an FM music station in New England. A young woman applied for an entry-level job as a newscaster, and I could tell she was very intelligent and probably well-qualified as a journalist. But she had an accent that I felt would not go over well with our rather parochial audience.
So yes, I turned away Christiane Amanpour. Wonder how her career would have turned out if I had hired her…
