A story about Todd Rundgren

When I lived in Dallas, TX, I saw him perform twice during his A Capella Tour. I even got to storm the stage at the second show and got to sing back up while he performed “Bang the Drum All Day.” Even though the drummer for Brave Combo hogged the snare, it was wonderful to be right there on stage with Todd.

The next day, I was on my lunch break at BookStop when I passed by the Metaphysical section to see Todd with his well-mannered son. I did not approach him (I was off the clock, after all) but stood a few yards away and admired him with respect and awe.

I don’t know if he saw me out of the corner of his eye, but I was more than happy to not divulge his presence there until after he had left the building. I was a volunteer DJ at KNON-FM with my show, “Remedy for Radio.” I played lots of Todd/Utopia recordings as well as some spoken word sides.

I no longer have my vinyl, but I do have wonderful memories realted to Todd and his music. I used to meditate with side two of Healing, and maybe one day I’ll find it in CD format. Somehow, I do feel connected to Todd and maybe one day we’ll meet face to face.

A story about Todd Rundgren

i’ve met Todd a few times, but he wouldn’t remember me. The first time was at a televison promotions conference (PROMAX in Washington DC).

The second time was at a concert (Individualist Tour) in Omaha at the Ranch Bowl…literally a club off a bowling alley.
My friend Dean (who brews GREAT beer in Omaha at Jobbers Canyon) sent some of his beer to the band prior to the show…afterwards we were bowling in this “closed” bowling alley with Todd, Prairie Prince, Jesse Gress, Larry Tagg & John Ferenzik.

Thanks, Dean!

A story about Todd Rundgren

He was doing a record signing thing before his “Nearly Human” tour stop in Columbus, OH. He was there with Michelle Gray and Vince Welnick.

He seemed like a nice enough guy. The band members were joking around. My friend had brought a blank piece of staff paper. When he handed it to Todd his reaction was “What this?!” to which my friend replied…”blank staff paper.” “Oh, thank God,” said Todd. “I thought you were going to ask me to look at something you wrote!”

Being a producer he must get a lot of that. ;)

I thanked him for the time and the music. I was glad to get the opportunity to do that.

A question I have about Todd Rundgren

I want to ask Todd if he whether it was boredom or despiration that led him to The New Cars. Todd, Todd, Todd, honestly, you’re better than this.

Why doesn’t Todd have a REAL web site anymore? :-)
