A story about Todd Rundgren
When I lived in Dallas, TX, I saw him perform twice during his A Capella Tour. I even got to storm the stage at the second show and got to sing back up while he performed “Bang the Drum All Day.” Even though the drummer for Brave Combo hogged the snare, it was wonderful to be right there on stage with Todd.
The next day, I was on my lunch break at BookStop when I passed by the Metaphysical section to see Todd with his well-mannered son. I did not approach him (I was off the clock, after all) but stood a few yards away and admired him with respect and awe.
I don’t know if he saw me out of the corner of his eye, but I was more than happy to not divulge his presence there until after he had left the building. I was a volunteer DJ at KNON-FM with my show, “Remedy for Radio.” I played lots of Todd/Utopia recordings as well as some spoken word sides.
I no longer have my vinyl, but I do have wonderful memories realted to Todd and his music. I used to meditate with side two of Healing, and maybe one day I’ll find it in CD format. Somehow, I do feel connected to Todd and maybe one day we’ll meet face to face.
