Because I know absolutely nothing about him, and it’s so completely beautiful.

i wrote to him once asking if he could write a comment for my book cover (THE ORPHEUS OBSESSION, about a girl stalking a rock star)—and he said YES! (he wrote something magical and i am forever indebted.)
i had a certain scene in the book which actually almost came to pass in real life, about a month later, when devendra was in my town (i didn’t know it) and i was in our post office parking lot listening to japanese music and felt suddenly aware and embarrased that it was loud, just when this van pulled up and out came a guy carrying boxes and he had these strange tattoos and i don’t know how i knew it was him….
i followed him out, we gave each othr a hug, and he said how did ou know me, i just shaved my beard???

it was such a beautiful freak thing. well thanks 4 listening. and i know you’ll meet him…he is quite like a prophet, all glimmery and divine…

because he can have his chinese children anywhere with me.

My boy had a backstage pass, and aside from the evil security dudes and the fact I’d purposely left my jacket there, I coulda got in, but there was something about a party…. I dunno, it never happened. But at least D got to meet him and shake his hand (which I later told him never to wash) They said words like “Far Out” and “Trippy” and compared eachothers facial hair. Livin the dream baby livin the dream.

Oh I might add another friend was backstage and sat in a different room the whole time…like hello???

We went to a concert by Devendra with the group Hairy Fairy… from the first song (“Quedate Luna”) to the last (“Little Boys”), and especially during “Heard Somebody Say” I had a big grin on my face:-); it was all just so good. Devendra has a wonderful voice and such expressiveness when he plays and sings. We saw him after the show, and he was very kind to take the time to meet with us. We can’t wait to go see him again!!

Because he has reinvented songwriting, he’s fun and he is amazingly creative. Plus he’s cute and made the coolest video: Just like a child.
