Catherine Deneuve (born October 22, 1943, Paris) is an Oscar-nominated French actress.

Born Catherine Dorléac to the actor Maurice Teynac (né Dorléac) and his wife Renée Deneuve, she made her movie debut in the 1956 film “Les Collegiennes,” when she was still a teenager (her elder sister, Françoise Dorléac, 1942-1967, was a popular actress before dying in a car crash). Her breakthroughs came with the musical film Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) (Jacques Demy, 1964), the late Surrealist masterpiece Belle de Jour (Luis Buñuel, 1967), and the Franco-English production Repulsion (Roman Polanski, 1965).
