A story about anita desai

writer, novelist, indian, indian-canadian, thinker, friend of Ismail Merchant
well, i kind of said hi to her, back when i heard her speak… so i guess that kinda counts…
am marking her as met.
know sooner or later, beyond the horizon of time, i would be gone. Somehow, I want you to have a part of me, and so a part of me remain with you.
I had the opportunity to hear her speak at the SALTAF festival in October…
Unfortunately, she was on a panel with another (new) author, whose views were a bit provoking to the audience, and so we didn’t get to hear nearly enough from Ms. Desai.
But, the plus side is, after hearing her speak, and also after seeing In Custody the movie that Ismail Merchant based on her novel, I am now inspired to read her books which for some reason had escaped my attention earlier.
Here’s something she said about what it’s like to be a writer:
”... one becomes a piece of driftwood, and tides and waves become one’s fluid homes…”
