The last time I saw Wayne Coyne
He was sitting at a table near us, eating Easter brunch at the Descanso Gardens.

The Flaming Lips feature heavily in two of the top 5 experiences in my life.
Wayne is responsible for the meanest and quickest hangover ever. My sister and I got to dance on stage as an elephant and a panther (respectively) at a FL show in CPH. Before hand there were free beers backstage, so we had a couple. The show was so fantastic and fun, but those suits were like a sauna. Hence the instant hangover as soon as we took them off.
But I forgive you, Wayne, and things can go back to the way they were when I was a mere fan of the Lips and you were kick ass as always.
A friend of mine who worked for Warner Brothers had always been tight with the Lips. When they were out doing their “Flaming Lips Experiment” tour, which was an amazing audience-participation project that played at various clubs,he arranged for them to do the experiement at a private party in a great old Polish Hall in NE Minneapolis the night before the show at First Ave. It was amazingly cool, intimate, fun. Best birthday party I ever went to.
He pretty much wears the same two designer suits over and over again.
I’ve met Wayne on numerous occasions, but only in passing, and mostly at Kinko’s. THe first time was circa 1994 and we were both making flyers for shows we were doing. I showed him how to use the spot color (red and blue) feature on the self-serve machines to make 3-D pictures and he told me I was “clever”
Met him at a few shows on and off, then when I got at job at said Kinko’s he and Michelle came in and I took their passport photos. Recently he came in and we talked about the big “UFO” show they did. HE said that they ended up opening the gate and every could come in whether they got a ticket or not (how cool is that).
When I told him I didn’t get to go because I had to work, he smiled and said “Well, you need to quit that job!”
I’d love to formally meet him and I’ve wanted to work with him on various projects for years!
He spoke at our school’s graduation. Not really. He made a video and it ruled. Hopefully I’ll meet him September 15th. OR I’ll walk to his house.
