How I met Spike Lee
It was the summer of 1991, and my uncle was working on the movie “Malcolm X”. Before the movie wrapped filming in the United States, a video was scheduled to shoot for the song “Revolution” by Arrested Development from the soundtrack. My uncle knew that extra help would be good since the video was going to be shot in one day. He cleared my sister, a friend and I to work (for free – lol) on the video.
As soon as we arrived at the set of the shoot, we got to meet Spike. He was very kind to us. He didn’t stay with us long; there was work to do. But he did tell us how he appreciated our help. And though we would be working as volunteers for the day, he offered us t-shirts from his store in Brooklyn (it’s no longer open for business). That was good enough for us. We were happy to be there.
Long story short, it was a cool experience. We worked very hard, and were worn out by the end of the day. I never knew how much time and work went into a music video. It was cool to see how a video comes together, and to see the end result knowing I had a hand in it was awesome.

And, we never got our t-shirts… lol
