Pervez Musharraf (placeholder)

Pervez Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943 and he is the current Steward of governmental power in Pakistan, and was the former Chief of Staff of the Pakistani Army. He came to power in 1999 by affecting a bloodless military coup after his boss and then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, not only attempted to oust him from the country he had so faithfully served all of his adult life, but tried to kill him and an international flight full of passengers in the process. His fight against Pakistani government corruption made him the target of such acts by elected officials such as Nawaz Sharif and the manner in which he was forced to come to power has made him a target of the states Supreme Court.

Pervez Musharraf has also been fighting Al Qaeda, regional warlords and other militant organizations which along with attacks from the Pakistani Supreme Court has forced him to suspend the constitution of Pakistan twice and have made him and those that would support him targets of all terrorist organizations throughout the Middle East and created deep seated animosities for him by the majority of the citizens of his country. Al Qaeda has tried to kill Pervez Musharraf more times that we can be certain of and succeeded in killing Benazir Bhutto after she returned to the country to help Musharraf create a more stable and acceptable government.

The government of Nawaz Sharif was the one responsible for allowing A. Q. Khan to proliferate nuclear weapons technology and components to the North Korean government and the governments of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and others we probably are not aware of. Musharraf will return the control of the country to an elected official, but hopefully not until he can rest assured that such control will not be corrupted and abused.

Why I admire Pervez Musharraf

It is amazing how history seems to force the right people into power from time to time. Pervez Musharraf is just such a leader, born to rule and incorruptible. These attributes also make him the target of truly extensive and potent evils throughout the region and the world. I would be honored to meet this man and tell him how wonderful it is to have people like himself in the world, even if his own countrymen cannot yet adequately appreciate what he has done for them and how much he has put himself on the line for his ideals and the future of Pakistan. I worry for the man though as he may not be long for the world. Many of the greatest leaders that come along are so hounded by their adversaries and so reluctant to destroy their greatest foes, that they eventually fall victim to them.
