How I met George Best
I was about five years old when some drunk dude came up to me and my family at lego land. He started speaking to my parents and kissed my mum’s hand and i didn’t have a clue who he was but he seemed cool anyway!

A genius on the football pitch and a great guy off it. Forget all the tabloid stuff, he really was a genuine nice guy. I met him a few times near where I work. He owned a wine bar called “Bestie’s” but often would be found just having a quiet drink in the local pubs and on a couple of occasions he asked us if we would like to join him. On one occasion we were collecting for a christmas charity and it was around this time of year. Not only did he make a generous donation but he also bought us a drink to warm us up.
My Auntie used to work in the Britsih Airways VIP lounge and she knew him quite well at the peak of his fame 30 plus years ago. She met him again many years later when she was in her 80’s but he rememered her and took the time out to buy her lunch as a “thank you” for everything she did.
I was so so sad when he passed away but no doubt he’s still running rings round the angels.
God bless you George !!
