A story about Anne McCaffrey
I was working in Camberley and who should turn up in the local bookstore but Anne McCaffrey.
Nobody was talking to her yet, but she was going to do a signing of one of her latest books (can’t remember which one though, may have been a Catteni/Freedom book).
I went up and had a chat with her. I’m not a big fan of the Catteni/Freedom books, but really love the Dragon & Talent/Tower & Hive books (and crystal singer and ship books of course). I asked if she was going to do any more in the Talent/Tower and Hive vein, but she was working on the Acorna series and she’s got no more plans for anything in the Talent series.
I don’t collect autographs, so didn’t ask. It’s not my thing.
In a way, I was a little let down somehow, but I couldn’t put my finger on why. Possibly because you sort of imagine a connection with an Author who write such heart-rending books. I read and re-read her books and they move me so much, whereas I never mentioned that to her and our meeting was entirely ordinary.
That’s life I guess…
