How I met Paul Robeson

Spiritually and culturally, Paul Robeson still lives on in those in comunities of color who seek to tell the truth no matter what the consequences and who use their God given talents for the progression and growth of their people.

He exists in the young poets of Urban word who speak to today’s youth. He exits in Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Queen GodIs and Jill Scott, Common…to name a few.

I hope that one day I can personify what Paul Robeson stood for.

Why I want to meet Paul Robeson

Hearing him singing “Old Man River” gives me chills.
It’s unbelievable how talented this man was at everything and how being born at that time in America placed so many restrictions on him.

Why I admire Paul Robeson

Born on April 9, 1898 in Princeton, New Jersey.

Great man. Brilliant at sports, one of the first African American to study Law in the USA and simply an astonishing singer. If that was not enough, he also was an activist and a socialist in the 1940’s. He was blacklisted, his passport was revoked, and his career came to a halt.

He is considered a contemporary renaissance man.
