Ernest Shackleton (placeholder)

Antarctic explorer. His most famous expedition was on the Endurance. He planned to be the first to cross the entire continent of Antarctica, however, before he landed, his ship was trapped in ice and destroyed. He led his entire crew out to the open sea, where they sailed to various islands in open boats. Then, while his men camped, he crossed the uncharted interior of the island, ending up at the whaling village where he secured his men a rescue.
All of his men came back alive.
