Fidel Castro (placeholder)

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (born August 13, 1926) has been the leader of Cuba since 1959, when, leading the 26th of July Movement, he overthrew the regime of Fulgencio Batista. In the years that followed Castro oversaw the transformation of Cuba into the first Communist state in the Western Hemisphere.

Castro first attracted attention in Cuban political life through his student activism. His outspoken nationalism, and radical critique of Batista and US corporate and political influence in Cuba, brought a receptive following as well as criticism, together with attention from the authorities. Later, his leadership of the 1953 attack on the Moncada Barracks, subsequent exile, and eventual guerrilla invasion of Cuba in December 1956 cemented his fame worldwide. Since his accession to power in 1959, he has maintained a high, and controversial, profile. Inciting much condemnation, praise and debate, Castro is named a dictator, especially by the Cuban exile community, while sympathizers and supporters name him a legitimate and popular leader.

A question I have about Fidel Castro

How did he feel when he heard the news that his friend Che Guevara had died? What were some of the emotions running through his mind, and how did he deal with those emotions?

Why I want to meet Fidel Castro

Whatever the people say about this man, they fail to notice the fact he has been in power for years and there is very little discontent in his regime. I’d love to meet the last of the dictators, and learn from him. I also automatically distrust the common (United States) perception of anything that isn’t theirs.

Why I want to meet Fidel Castro

Simply put… I want to form my own opinion of this man whom the USA seems to hate yet so many think of as a great revolutionary.

I’m not much for allowing anyone else to do my thinking for me – not my government or anyone else. There are things I have read about Fidel that are greatly admirable & others as told from the US perspective that make me shutter – if true.

I just would love to talk with him, feel his presence, & share back & forth our thoughts & insights about life & politics… in the end, deciding for myself what I think of Fidel Castro.

The real reason I want to meet Fidel Castro

I want to meet a true leader, a person people love and admire. I would also like to ask him about Che, the revolution, the years fighting the evil empire…lots of things. It would be an interesting chat.

The real reason I want to meet Fidel Castro

To figure out what he admired about Abe Lincoln and other famous people. I know he’s a dictatorial bastard with kids from 8 different women and never wants to relinquish power back to the people (where it belongs)....but I’m still interested in what his classical beliefs/values are. seems like an interesting case study

Why I want to meet Fidel Castro

Would like to know What the hell is he thinking? Maybe to him it all makes sense.
