A story about Douglas H. Gresham
While I haven’t met Douglas Gresham, I did exchange a few e-mail messages with him in 2000 (or does that count?). One of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis, was his stepfather. I tracked Gresham down via a website dedicated to Lewis’s life and writings in order to ask him about The Kilns, the house where Lewis and family once lived. He was quite gracious and helpful, and wrote several paragraphs on places to visit — many more than my wife and I had time to see in our short visit to England. (I still have the list. Anyone interested is welcome to contact me.)
Gresham was co-producer for a film adaptation of one of Lewis’s novels, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the first book of the Chronicles of Narnia. While I wouldn’t consider this e-mail exchange a “brush with fame,” it was enjoyable to see Mr. Gresham’s name listed as Co-Producer in the credits, and to be reminded of how accomodating he was, once upon a time. Not your typical movie-going experience!
