The last time I saw Newt Gingrich
was in his office in Washington, D.C. while he was Speaker of the House. He let me sit in his chair and hold the enormous gavel that was on his desk. We had our picture taken together. Very nice gentleman.
Former Speaker of the House of Representitives. Implemented ‘Contract with America’ ideas and legislation. Conservative spokesperson and potential 2008 presidential candidate.

Was in his office in Washington…
While he was House Speaker.
Very personable, but surrounded by a maelstrom of aids and people vying for a sliver of his time.
Several years ago, while visiting the Atlanta zoo for a coworker’s child’s birthday party, we were walking toward the new Panda exhibit at the time, and my husband started saying, “Hey, there’s Newt Gingrich!”
As we got closer to him, he continued saying it, so Newt stuck his hand out to shake Wallace’s and said, “Nice to meet you!”
I was grossed out—given what an assclown I find him to be, but the incident still makes me chuckle, even now.
I met Newt in the San Diego air port baggage claim area a few weeks ago. We shared the same flight from DC. I greeted him and welcomed him to San Diego. I inquired if he was considering an ‘08 presidential bid. He said that was what he was just talking about.
