Rheingold is a writer, designer, theorist and community builder specializing in the cultural, social and political implications of modern communication media such as the Internet, mobile telephony and virtual communities (a term he is credited with coining)
In 2002, Rheingold published Smart Mobs, a book exploring the potential for communication and technology to augment collective intelligence. Shortly thereafter, in conjunction with the Institute for the Future, Rheingold launched an effort to develop a broad-based literacy of cooperation.
Because I want to be as cool as him when I grow old ;-)
And I think he’d be a really interesting person to meet :-)
I’m also really interested in cybernetics and his Smart Mobs was one of the books that spurred that interest.
I’d like to talk to him about it and what he has observed since and perhaps ask him if he can point me towards some good books, communities, networks or other resources…
