Why Ron D. Moore should want to meet me
I have a Series created for him, he can put his name on it. I just want to get it out of my head/life. Destroy the UFP. Lets bring in a Hitler
Ron D. Moore is the creator and executive producer of the new Battlestar Galactica television series on the SciFi channel. Previously he worked on Carnivale (HBO), Roswell (UPN), G vs E (USA), Star Trek: Deep Space 9, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I listen to his podcasts intently, never miss an episode and his writing is so good.
He captures every aspect of the story and builds each episode to be a work of art, very talented guy.
Love to meet him,
I had the privelege to interview with Ron as his and Brannon’s assistant back in the earlier days of ST:TNG. They had already offered the job to someone else but had to interview three people under Paramount’s rules. They told me at the time that they would have offered me the job if they hadn’t already done so for this other friend. It was the best interview I think I ever had. We had a blast talking and joking around. I really, really wanted the job when I left Ron’s office, not because it was Star Trek but because of Ron. And I was very sad that it wouldn’t be a possibility that year.
About a month or so later I got a call from Ron offering me the job (!!!). Oh. My Gosh. I was floored. And flattered. Turns out the woman they hired had left because she’d gotten a “better offer” (???) on a feature.
Unfortunately, I had just started working on the show “Dear John” and felt it would be unethical to quit for a “better offer” on a show I was dying to work on. So I VERY sadly and reluctantly turned it down. UGH! I was so frustrated.
Sometimes I look back and wish I hadn’t had the ethics I do, because just think of the experiences and fun I could have had working for Ron. God knows I wanted to!!! BADLY. But I just didn’t feel it was right. Or fair to my then-boss on Dear John.
Ultimately I know I did the right thing. I don’t know that Ron and Brannon would have been able to fully trust me knowing that I’d left one job/commitment for another, even if the “another” was them. And I don’t think I could have lived with myself knowing I’d dumped one commitment for something “better”.
Still… I wish I’d been able to keep contact with Ron. I still follow his career and respect him greatly as a person.
Ron Moore is the creative force behind the new BattleStar Galactica.
Though he must get tired of people asking the same questions, I’d love to know if he has a direction in mind for the series (though not what that direction is) – i.e. is he operating in a Babylon 5 type way, with a story arc in mind (filling in small details has he proceeds), or is it more Trek-like (which is his pedigree), i.e. make it all up as you go (maybe I’m doing Trek a disservice, I don’t think I am).
With BSG he seems to have a lot of threads weaving, which implies ‘plan’ – but I’ve also picked up that certain key elements (e.g. Boomer pregnancy) were not planned from the start, so there is a tension here.
Essentially, I’d like as much insight as possible into the process of writing, how is it planned out?
I’d also like to know what systems he has for keeping it all in place long term, i.e. not letting thread get forgotten, remembering to pay things off and so forth.
Oh, and there’s the fanboy questions… will see some ‘old style’ cylons once or twice, please? Pretty please.
