Well, JMS singlehandedly revived my interest in science fiction at a time when I, as a sci-fi geek was being let down by my former favourites of the spaceship-opera variety, Star Wars and Star Trek.
...Then along came Babylon 5.
And of course, as any fan of this revolutionary 5-year-story-arc show, I started learning about the behind-the-scenes difficulty JMS had, not only just bringing his story to life (After pitching it to Paramount, the creators of Star Trek they said “No, thanks” and then co-incidentally soon came up with a show called “Star Trek: Deep Space 9”) but keeping it alive.
One of the ultimate themes of B5 and of JMS’s personal odyssey with the show is that faith manages.
I learnt this lesson from JMS’s example. I then set out to tell a story of my own, a science fiction tale that had been trying to escape my imagination for a very long time.
The Unearthing, the first volume of that tale, has just been published.
