A story about Tomiko Van 伴都美子
Van Tomiko is the former vocalist for Do As Infinity, and currently has a solo project. Her former style of music with Do As Infinity was Pop-rock, whereas her current genre is jazz. Currently she is continuing on with a solo project, with her debut album FAREWELL released in March and her debut single to be released in June.
Van Tomiko is the former lead singer of the J-Rock group Do As Infinity. Van Tomiko was originally born Ban Tonko on January 9th 1979 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. After dropping out of high school she became a singer at a local club. In May 1999 she auditioned for Dai Nagao and within two days recorded her first song with Do As Infinity.
She is a fan of American artists Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, TLC and of Ireland’s The Corrs. Her favorite foods are mini tomatoes, Shouchuu (potato alcohol), and Oolong tea. She has recently returned to high school and earned her diploma. She is continuing her studies in modeling at Tokyo Modeling School and currently has a contract with LAVENUS Hair Care.
After Do As Infinity disbanding in 2005, Van Tomiko started a solo career. Her debut solo album, FAREWELL, was released in March of 2006. Suprisingly for a Japanese artist, no singles were released prior to her album. The album was met with moderate sucess in Japan, reaching #7 on Oricon charts. However, the album was popular with western consumers and ranked highly on English Japanese music retailer’s own charts (for example, US Yesasia, CDJapan).
