British author and journalist. Noted as a political and cultural commentator, as well as an accomplished novelist, Orwell is among the most widely admired English-language essayists of the 20th century. He is best known for two novels written towards the end of his short life: Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four.
George Orwell was the one who made me love writing. By reading his books I understood that every good writer has to have his unique mission. Orwell warns us, his message is that democracy is a great achievement of humankind and we need to guard it.
I like to tell people about him as I did on that marvellous writers forum.
I admire him for not being black and white on issues but having differentiated opinions.
I admire him for the way he voiced his opinions: not shouting them for everyone to hear, but subtle, seeing possible compromises, realising we can’t all get exactly what we want and should take in account what other people want and need. A true democrat if ever there was one.
The writings of George Orwell have inspired me in many ways to write, think critically, explore, and act responsibly. 1984 was a big inspiration, as was a class that I took in college, called “Orwell, Orwellianisms, and Technology in Global Society”, or something. We read and discussed essays and other novels by Orwell, Margaret Atwood’s, The Handmaid’s Tale, and the famous 1984 Superbowl commercial for Apple Computer’s MacIntosh. I was intellectually stimulated enough to make me want to write everyday. So, I try to do that without fail.
His fictional works of Big Brother states is so applicable to even today. His social observations were stateless.
