Tony Campolo, professor emeritus at Eastern University, [outside of Philadelphia, PA.] is the founder of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, an organization that develops schools and social programs in various third world countries and in cities across North America. He is the author of many books, his most recent being, “Speaking My Mind.”

For nearly 30 years, The Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education has been committed to what God is doing through Christian people in inner-city America and around the world. Under the leadership of Dr. Tony Campolo, EAPE has developed and nurtured elementary and secondary schools, universities, adult and child literacy centers, tutoring programs, orphanages, AIDS hospices, urban youth ministries, summer camps, and long-term Christian service programs in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Africa, Canada and throughout the USA. Our goal is to help build the Kingdom of God by combining evangelism and social justice in the name of Jesus. Listed below are some of the many ministries EAPE supports.

Beyond Borders: Working in Haiti for Justice and Peace, Out of Devotion to Christ

Although the U.S. and Haiti are separated by a flight of less than two hours, the economic distance between them could hardly be greater. The gap between these neighboring nations mirrors the growing gulf between the privileged and powerless worldwide and testifies to the brokenness and injustice of our world.

It is across this great chasm that Beyond Borders works, building understanding and solidarity between the wealthy and the poor. As we do, we discover a surprising truth, that the materially poor are often spiritually & culturally rich while the wealthy are often poor in non-material ways. We all grow richer, though, when we reach beyond what divides us. Together we find new meaning for our lives and the strength to build a world where God’s peace and justice reign.

Mission Year

LOVE GOD / LOVE PEOPLE // NOTHING ELSE MATTERS

Mission Year is a radical opportunity for Christian young people to put into practice the simplest and most important commandment of Jesus: “Love the Lord your God, and love your neighbor as yourself.” By living and working for a year in a poor, urban neighborhood, partnering with a local church, volunteering at a social service agency, and spending time with neighbors, our Mission Year team members effectively impact their communities while catching a deeper vision for what the Kingdom of God is like.

UrbanPromise

The CamdenForward School educates Camden’s children in an environment rich in love, hope, structure, order and competence leading to high academic achievement, spiritual growth, and the development of strong Christian character.

The CamdenForward School opened in the fall of 1997 with just one class each of pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Each year since then, the school has added a new grade and will continue to do so until it is able to provide a quality private school education to students from pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade.

It costs roughly $5,000 a year to provide a child with schooling.
Each child receives a scholarship, and their parents are asked to pay $50 a month for their child to attend school. Since the CamdenForward School receives no government funding, the remaining amount is met through partnerships with individuals, churches, corporations, and foundations who are willing to give time and money to help provide the best possible education for all students.
