Why I admire Shel Silverstein
his stories and poems can relate to everyone; any age matter will appreciate and love them.

When I was in JR High School we had a poetry contest. Winning poems were presented in a show where the poems were acted or recited out. I actually had the second highest number of poems in the show. However, I remember on of the poems was HUG A WAR. That was stolen I would think.
Shel Silverstein and my father met before I was born, and were drinking buddies. Apparently they looked so much alike, they liked to mess with people’s heads at bars. I was very young when we ‘met’, but apparently I was good and didn’t pee in his lap.
Shel Silverstein was an awesome writer of children’s stories. I grew up reading his work. I have read his stories to my children. I cried when he died of a heart attack in 1999. I told my children that the world lost a great writer. He was a bit scary in picture but his words were as soothing as a childhood memory should go.
THANKS SHEL. I will cherish your stories as if you wrote them for me.
