How I met Justin Trudeau
Justin gave a talk at First Canadian Place today.
He says people often feel powerless today, but they need to know that their choices can impact people in different places in the world.
He asks why we put so much importance on celebrities on gossip magazines. He says it’s because we all want to matter, and that maybe if we had something a celebrity had, we could matter too. He pointed out that these people are rich and famous but no better off.
He tells us we do matter.
We live in a world today where we have access to so much information that no previous generation could dream of.
His travels have taught him that we are so lucky to be Canadian because we don’t have to worry about subsistance – whether we have a meal for the next day. He said, “Thanks Dad!”
In response to a question about how Canada compares to the world in terms of being green he says Canadians often look for a global opinion to see where they stand. He wishes we had more pride in ourselves as Canadians.
When asked about politics he says it is a means not an end. He says he is a teacher. And teachers find out the needs of their pupils so that they are given the tools to support themselves. He says in his riding there are 30 cultural groups and he is trying to listen to their needs.
