I met Neil Gaiman at a reading and signing at Pulp Fiction in the Anzac Arcade in Brisbane 2005. He read an excerpt from Anansi Boys and very patiently signed many many books. I had a copy of his short story collection Smoke and Mirrors which he very kindly signed at the beginning of one of my favourite stories, The Price, even though the promotion was for Anansi Boys. I gave him a couple of little books (because of course he needs more books) including one of Borneo Folk Stories (it is probably hidden in a basement somewhere, still I hope he comes across it some day and reads it because I thought they were quite lovely stories). It was an old second-hand book but he accepted it with interest and enthusiasm. When I told him that my other favourite story in Smoke and Mirrors was Murder Mysteries he leant forward and kissed me on the cheek. Whereupon I became instantly flustered and clumsy and got his pen stuck in my hair. Nevertheless, I’ve been absolved with a kiss by Neil Gaiman (no less). Though I’m probably due for another absolution by now. It’s terribly hard to stay sin free. ;)
I met Neil Gaiman at a… I suppose you’d call it a “presentation”... he gave at a college in Conway, Arkansas. The person who drove me had to get his autograph, and got me to take a picture of the two of them. She gave him a big bear-hug as I snapped the picture. I don’t know how amused he was about that, but he kept fairly composed.
Met him at a reading he did for Coraline in Chicago. He read and then did a signing. Was quite a pleasant fellow; very nice and personable. Signed stuff for me and my friends and talked to us as well.
I went to the National Book Festival back in 2005. After seeing him speak, I stood in line for an insane amount of time to get him to sign something for me. I felt as giddy as a schoolgirl.
waited in line for 2 or so hours at a book-signing event here in manila. it was surreal to occupy the same space as neil gaiman! before signing my book, he said, “you look lovely.” it was my friend who told me about that. i’m a bit deaf so i didn’t even hear it! hahahaha!
Met him, but not in a hi, how are ya, chatty way. It’s time Neil put some colour in his wardrobe.
