During the political insanity of the last decade, I have always been able to count on Amy to provide reporting that others wouldn’t touch. Her integrity is something I do not doubt – even though I’ve not always agreed with her conclusions.
Beyond this, however, she became a radicalizing voice in my head while hitting the gym. The NPR station was blocked by noise, but I could pick up Pacifica without any problem to listen to Democracy Now.
I admire her immensely and would like to tell her how much I appreciate her fearless, honest, desperately needed journalism.
I guess I saw her once in the hotel (it seems to me that it was Avillion Hotel)...
Amy visited St. Louis when she was here for the National Conference for Media Reform. She spoke at the conference on a panel or two, but also at a local church that often hosts local authors. I went to see Amy speak. She was, of course, amazing in her talk.
Afterward, I bought one of her books (Left Bank Books was the sponsor of her speaking engagement) and she signed it. I got my picture taken with her too. She looked very, very tired (and was – this was her last leg for her speaking tour). She was very nice and humble.
