He attended King Edward’s School, Birmingham and Oxford University; he worked as reader in English language at Leeds from 1920 to 1925, as professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford from 1925 to 1945, and of English Language and Literature, also at Oxford, from 1945 to 1959. He was a strongly committed Catholic. He belonged to a literary discussion group called the Inklings, through which he enjoyed a close friendship with C. S. Lewis.

He’s a genius. He created Elvish, all those creatures, and a totally different world. The philosophies instilled in his books have helped me become as persevering and hopeful as the protagonists in his novels. The man has the most amazing imagination.

If he was still living I would want to me JRR Tolkien. He was my mother’s favorite author. When I was young she read the Lord of the Rings Triology to me. It is one of my favorite memories of her. Now that she is gone…Tolkien is one of my favorite links to her memory. I would love to thank him for writing the books that will always bring my mother back to life in every single one of the pages. Thank you!

Why I want to meet John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

I’d love to just sit in the same room with him. But if I did, I’d probably just stare at him in utter awe and complete bewilderment. The only words I could possibly utter is How? I mean I consider myself someone with an over active and quite detailed imagination, but compared to tolkien I’d be a grain of sand on a beach.
I’d ask him how, but never expect an answer I’d understand.
