Why I want to meet Pedro Almodóvar
I think he would be fun to have a beverage with.
The first time I saw one of his movies, I was in a yurt in Maui. It was pretty cool. I saw All About My Mother and loved it.
I met him twice. The first one was in Rio, during a film festival back in 1986 in which every review of his brilliant “Matador” was bad, no journalist wanted to talk to him, no one even knew he existed, except for me and my partner editor at underground film magazine “tabu”, Ivana Bentes. We did a long, cool interview with him.
Ten years later I met him again. He said that interview was the only good thing that happened to him in Rio in 1986 and we both celebrated the fact that he was not making movies with little money and I was not editing undeground press anymore.
The picture attached to this message was taken by Cicero Rodrigues in 1986 and autographed by Almodóvar in 1996. The magazine he holds is the one Ivana and I editedfrom 1986 until 1990.
Because his movies are incredible. All of his movies are unforgetable. His films aren´t usual. He knows how to attract people. My favorite film is Mala Educácion.
