A story about Douglas Coupland
I eventually met Doug a few weeks ago in London. He announced he wasn’t going to be touring/speaking anymore so I figured if there was ever a time to be a fan girl.
He was warm – like even his hands.

I went to an evening last week in London where he was reading from his new book ‘the gum thief’.
It was really good fun and definitely have to read it very soon.
He has such a random mind – brilliant! However, he did say that he thought this might be his last ever reading
He was an awesome writer. He’s been a little off form recently. I’ve had the opportunity to meet him on a number of occasions, but I’ve not actually gotten round to it yet.
A lot of people have stopped following Douglas Coupland’s work, but I haven’t. He has a unique literary voice that speaks to me—even when he’s being cheeky.
Met him in an airport in Las Vegas. He was incredibly humble and sweet. We had a brief conversation about various neighbourhoods in Vancouver. I was just happy I didn’t pull an “OMG, I Can’t speak!” like I did during a previous book signing.
I have more Coupland novels than any other writer…he’s the best christmas, b-day or tuesday gift ever!
Why not? He’s such a great writer and seems to be an interesting person. I enjoyed all his books though have yet to pick up JPod.
attended what he said was his last book signing for a few months if not for the next few years or so, he jokingly told the crowd at Chapters. I’m visiting Vancouver for the first time, and have been using his ‘City of Glass’ as an alternative guide. After his reading and my place in line. We chatted for approx 5 mins and he asked me about my t shirt. Finn brothers. Seemed a really mellow guy, very considerate to his fans and appreciative. Was worth the wait.
