How I met Tantek Çelik
Post @media party in London.
Prior to joining WaSP, Tantek was an important outside contributor to their efforts, both in his role as a member of the IE5/Mac team and on his own time. He is currently the Chief Technologist at Technorati, based in the San Francisco Bay area, and works on Attention.xml and microformats.
I met Tantek at the very first Superhappydevhouse. When my coder brother found out he authored the Tantek Box Model Hack, a photo was definitely in order!
We went to the same high school though he was a couple of years ahead of me. I really dig the work he’s done with Microformats and attention.xml.
He’s tireless in his mission to promote Microformats. After meeting him in SF, I can attest that Tantek is an exemplar of the techno commando dress code (as Chris noted).
Tantek gave me, Kevin Smokler and Dan Budiac advice on “how to meet the ladies” at Bruce Sterling’s house in Austin at SXSW. The guy is a chick magnet!
Back in the day he graciously helped me debug horribly complex Blogger HTML/CSS that wasn’t rendering properly in Mac IE.
He’s got so much energy! Plus, when I think of him all these interesting letter sequences come to mind—gmpg, xfn, sxsw, xhtml, xoxo… it’s like a wonderful secret language!
Tantek is such a rad dude. He’s been a great friend and mentor to me and is otherwise a fabulous person. Seem like good reasons to like the guy.
Oh, and he dresses like a techno commando like no one’s business.
