A story about Haruki Murakami

he was drunk and wearing a yellow t-shirt with the word ‘brazil’ across the front. it was after all during soccer world cup. he stopped at the bar, beside her and said something in finnish. she shook her head.
-what are you reading??
she showed him the cover.
-kafka on the beach by haruki murakami!!
his face was completely blank, obviously not a reader. she wanted him to go. he didn’t. she lit a cigarette, not giving him time to give her a light.
-what is it about??
he was swaying, smiling sheepishly. she sighed and looked him straight in the eyes.
-it’s about sex, death and fish falling from the sky!!
-among other things, she muttered, watching the brazilian finn walking back to his friends shaking his head. she continued reading.

A story about Haruki Murakami

Besides good character building, I see he can make his characters talk about things that have nothing to do with what’s happening in the character’s lives….I mean, I expected to only read about war in a story about war….I guess I’m trying to figure out what makes Murukami murukami…

Norwegian Wood and Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World are my absolute favorites. I have so so so many questions for this man. Does he ever do book tours?!

He’s insanely talented and obviously very intelligent and creative. I would love to have a conversation with him!

A story about Haruki Murakami

I found “A Wild Sheep Chase” languishing in a guesthouse in Phnom Penh back in 2002. It looked not horrible (compared to the usual fare found on hostel book shelves) so I grabbed it. The story hooked me from the get-go and I’ve been a huge fan ever since.

Haruki is my friend on MySpace and he commented on my page once. But I don’t count this as “knowing” him. ;)

Why I want to meet Haruki Murakami

I’ve been in love with him since I read the Wind-Up Bird Chronicles for the first and subsequently, many many times, along with his other books.

Why I want to meet Haruki Murakami

Haruki Murakami is about the age of my parents, except he’s much much more articulate. It would have been great having him as an uncle who would come around and play all his favourite records for me and then make up little stories to go along with them. I want to know what he thinks of Ryu Murakami and how he feels to be compared to Banana a lot. Moreover I’d like to see some of the talks he’s given at universities and maybe sit around a cafe talking about the neighbourhood cats. something like that.
